Exhibition:
"Waters
of Brazil"

As part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), the DPHDM, in partnership with the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, held the multimedia exhibition Waters of Brazil from April 13 to September 3. The exhibition addressed themes of sustainable development and explored the natural and cultural richness of Brazil’s rivers and seas.

The exhibition also toured the Rio de Janeiro City Museum at Parque da Cidade, the Copacabana Fort Museum, and the Naval Museum, all located in Rio de Janeiro.

Maritime Museums:
Contemporary Routes

Bringing together leading curators from some of the world’s foremost maritime museums, the event introduced the Brazilian Maritime Museum project. It fostered discussions on contemporary issues in the field of maritime museology. Participants included Matthew Tanner, President of the International Congress of Maritime Museums (ICMM); Gail Symington, Director of Collections and Public Engagement at the Royal Museums Greenwich (London, UK); and Jeroen van der Vliet, Curator at the National Maritime Museum of the Netherlands (Amsterdam), among others.

Lecture Series

Brazilian Maritime Museum:
A New Cultural Landscape

The event aimed to foster dialogue among professors, students, museologists, historians, and architects while also inserting the Brazilian Maritime Museum into academic discussions related to the museum’s own fields of study. Topics included the impact of the Brazilian Maritime Museum on the history of Rio de Janeiro, as well as contemporary approaches to museum architecture and exhibition design in Brazil.
